P.163 Endoscopic third ventriculostomy for VP shunt malfunction during the third trimester of pregnancy: illustrative case

Background: Endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) is a successful procedure for treating noncommunicating hydrocephalus as an alternative to initial ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt placement and salvage when VP fails. Physiological changes of pregnancy can lead failure complicate the management malfunction, particularly in trimester. Methods: Case report: ETV was successfully used trimester (31 weeks gestation) acute due patient went on deliver healthy baby at term; remained well long-term follow-up. An English-language PubMed literature review revealed four cases treated with first or second but no such reports pregnancy. Results: This case report adds sparse regarding use treat malfunction appears be unique first-time during this specific challenging prenatal period.
